The house stands on Omishima, the largest of the islands the Shimanami Kaido threads together and the natural place to break the ride. Ehime's oldest shrine keeps close to 80% of Japan's national-treasure samurai armor a few minutes up the road, and beyond it sit modern art museums, craft wineries, and the sea in every direction.
